US Army Airborne
Private 1st Class J. Alfred Boucher

Nineteen year old Fred Boucher enlisted with the US Army Airborne in 1942. He completed basic training before transferring to the 805th Tank Destroyer unit attached to the 34th Infantry Division.

While serving in North Africa, Fred was captured at the Casserine Pass and began his POW status in Sicily before being transferred to Austria and then on to his final destination in Firstburg Germany. He was held by Hitler's Nazi regime for over two years. Fred and his fellow POW's were liberated on April 13th 1945 and he became a free man.

Fred returned home to Fairfield Maine filled with gratitude and an overwhelming desire to build a business. A born entrepreneur, Fred worked two jobs to support his wife and five children while growing his company, Fred's Vending and Coffee Service.

Fred's business success is well known in Maine as is his generosity. Fred has made substantial donations to his church, area colleges and the Boys and Girls Club. Recently honored by Thomas College with an honorary PHD, Fred remains a grateful and proud American and a devoted father and husband.

Each person who serves our great country is a hero in our eyes.
