Lt. Colonel Charles “Chuck” Knowlen
LTC Charles Knowlen spent 20 years in the military. A native of Holden, Me, Chuck graduated from the University of Maine and the ROTC program. He began serving in the US Army in June of 1958. Chuck served as a Piasecki- H-21 Shawnee pilot and later flew the Bell HUIA Iriquois as well as theCH- 47 Chinook helicopter. He served with the 1st Air Cavalry Division in Ankhe, Central Highlands Vietnam.
After several tours in Vietnam, Chuck served in Germany with the Mechanized Infantry Battalion and later served as the commander of the 3rd Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment. His bravery earned him the Silver Star, Bronze Star, 25 Air Medals, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and many other citations.
LTC Charles Knowlen and his family still call Maine their home. Now retired, Chuck continues to serve by being involved in the Troop Greeters and the Cole Museum. Thank you for your service Chuck.
