Private Louis Roy


Louis Roy was inducted into the Army March of 1941.  Assigned to the 307th Infantry Regiment Company F (Statue of Liberty Division), he trained at Fort Devens, MA and then on to Fort Jackson, SC and Camp Pickett, VA.  Louis was sent to combat out of Sanfrancisco in March of 1944.  After a brief time in Hawaii, he saw combat in Guam, Leyte (Phillipines) , Saipan (Marianas Islands) and Okinawa.  He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, the Phillipines Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal. 

Louis was discharged in December of 1945.  He returned home to Waterville where he and his wife raised their child. He worked for Scott Paper Company until his retirement.

Each person who serves our great country is a hero in our eyes.
