US Army -WWII
T-5 Don Schwarzkop

Don Schwarzkopf registered for the draft in January 1945 when WWII was still raging. With six months of intense training at Camp Livingston, Louisiana, he shipped out for duty in Okinawa but was later diverted to Fort Ord, California.  Don was among one of the few members of his squad that operated the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). His tour of duty was cut short when Don contracted pneumonia. He was later diagnosed with diphtheria which resulted in Don’s hearing loss. Don was later stationed in Lyon, France with Battery B, 115th AAA Bn, where he worked a security detail.

He returned home to Becker where raise his family of five children.  He still enjoys reminiscing about his service and his brothers who also served their country.

Each person who serves our great country is a hero in our eyes.
