Minnesota US Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Clint Fladland Clint Fladland served in WWII , and Korea, as a pilot in the United States Marine Corps. His first assignment was as a civilian working in an aircraft factory in the early days before the war. Clint later enrolled in junior college, took a job at March Air Force Base in Riverside, CA. and in 1942 returned to Pasadena Junior College to receive his commission from the Navy V-5 program. In May of that same year he was sent to Hutchinson, KS to start flight training. He later was then sent to Corpus Christi,TX , Cuddiny Field , Beesville and Kingsville for additional training. Graduating in Dec, he chose to join the Marines where as a Second Lieutenant, he flew Corsair Fighter planes. In June 1944 he was sent to El Toro Marine Air Base in California for combat fighter training before being stationed overseas. Clint joined Fighter Squadron V.M.F. 321 on Guam. His squadron provided close air support for bombers and ground troops on Saipan,Tinian, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He flew combat air patrol for Admiral Chester Nimitz. Clint returned home where he made a living as a sales executive. He and his wife Rae raised a family of four children and call Forest Lake, MN home. Each person who serves our great country is a hero in our eyes. |
