US Army
2nd Lt. Errol Luginbill
Errol came from a small Kansas town. Like many he wanted to serve his country and help protect our freedoms. After joining the US Army in 1943, he took on the roll as a Navigator for the B-17 "Return Engagement" stationed at Knettishall Air Field in England. On March 8th, 1944, during a bombing run on Berlin, Germany, the squadron of B-17 bombers were attacked by German jet fighters and anti-aircraft artillery. Errol was killed when one of the artillery rounds exploded. The remaining crew jumped out as the plane went down just west of Hannover, Germany. For his bravery he received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal. Errol now rests in piece at Ardennes American Cemetery in Neupre, Belgium. His sacrifice to his country is not forgotten.
