 Tech SGT George Hugh Dallas  
       
  At 24 years old, George Hugh Dallas was working on family farm with dad when he was drafted. He received 6 months of training in Oregon before being sent to Italy. He was a Mortar Platoon Leader when he sufferred a hit that shattered his femer bone. Although injured, George contiued radio operations while the field medic administered shots to him and prepared him for evacuation. His hospital stay was three months long.  George under went 8 surgeries within 3 1/2 years before being honorably discharged. During his service, George received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
   
Upon returning home, George attended school for two years studying Electrical Maintenance. He was employed Memphis Light Gas and Water were he worked for 25 years. After retiring he went back to farming and raising beef cattle. Now he is completely retired and has passed the family farm down to his son Leslie. He enjoys his days now with his three granddaughters and 5 great grandsons who affectionately refer to him as "Daddy Dallas". He still calls Collierville, Tennessee his home.
